Milwaukee County Parks’ Oak Leaf Trail Sign Manual (2020)

Southeast Wisconsin DOT’s Multimodal Unit

Role: Multimodal Planner and Equity Liaison

Project Description:

The Milwaukee County Parks Oak Leaf Trail Sign Manual, developed by Toole Design, provides a coordinated wayfinding system to improve clarity and consistency across Milwaukee's bicycle network and the Oak Leaf Trail system. It includes two manuals: one for the City of Milwaukee and another for Milwaukee County Parks, both aimed at enhancing navigation with inexpensive, easy-to-install signs, stencils, and paint treatments. The 2019 Oak Leaf Trail Signage Strategy, incorporated into the manual, features color-coded "branch lines" and map kiosks to help users navigate the trail network.

Work on Project:

  • Provided technical expertise and was part of Stakeholder Advisory Committee contributing to the development of the sign manual.

  • Worked with Route of the Badger and City of Milwaukee’s 30th St BID on Oak Leaf Trail expansion and inclusion of updated signage.
