Role: Transportation Operations Assistant
Project Description:
The Pedestrian Plan, developed by City of Milwaukee’s Department of Public Works, is the city's first comprehensive pedestrian plan, utilizing pedestrian counts and public outreach to create a GIS map identifying high-priority areas for safety improvements. It highlights the benefits of a safe pedestrian infrastructure, addresses issues facing pedestrians, and provides recommendations for enhancing walking conditions.
Work on Project:
Team member on urban planning graduate research team at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, responsible for writing community surveys and performing door-to-door polling in all of Milwaukee’s 18 districts.
As graduate student contributed to white paper research and data analysis for the Pedestrian Plan on “Driver Yielding Rates at Uncontrolled Intersection Crosswalks” and the “Pedestrian Safety Summary”.
As intern with the DPW, assisted senior planners at the City with public outreach and stakeholder meetings for launch of the Plan.
Related Grant Work Related to Pedestrian Master Plan :
Co-wrote two Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grants, including a “Senior Fair Housing Intersection Improvements” grant based on research findings from my graduate thesis on reducing barriers to older adult women walking through universal and age-friendly design. The City of Milwaukee was awarded nearly $2 million dollars from these proposals to create safer, more accessible corridors.
